    Mission at MEG

MEG is striving to become a preferred, multi-faceted, engineering firm in the industrial and systems industries. Our reach will eventually include the renewable energy sector of both wind and solar. One of our primary future goals includes assisting in providing low cost energy options to those dark areas of the world without proper infrastructure. MEG is also altering the face of the white male-dominated engineering field by increasing awareness in the STEM fields for women and minorities by continuing to mentor and speak to youth about their endless opportunities in math and science through our non-profit organization.

    Culture at MEG

The diversity at MEG is what distinguishes us from any other company in the industry. Our employees come from a wide array of backgrounds, beliefs, and life experiences. Interestingly enough, these diversities are the foundation of our uniformity. Alternatively stated: that which sets us apart, is what brings us together. Maintaining an efficient and successful team involves a number of factors that we strive to incorporate into our environment each and every day. Having worked hard to build our engineering culture to focus on our uniqueness, we believe that it is important to maintain a healthy work/life balance, and that work shouldn’t just feel like work. Having an exceptional office culture is no longer an option, but a necessity. As part of the MEG Advantage, employees enjoy a flexible, relaxed work environment and are encouraged to use the pool table during lunch or take a break from their strenuous tasks and relax in the nap room. The key to happy, efficient, effective employees is to recognize them as people who have lives outside of the office and treat them accordingly. Employees are recognized for their performance and rewarded for their hard work at quarterly team outings. Whether it be a midday boat cruise, lunch at our favorite pizza shop, or an offsite team-building exercise, our outings allow us to grow as a team and reward everyone for their accomplishments and hard work. At MEG we emphasize personal growth, and we’ve created an environment where each employee is empowered to create their own path to success, with the company’s full support. We have a less traditional office space, which allows for a more open and collaborative environment. We consider ourselves a team-first corporate culture, which consistently encourages and implements employee feedback. Although the environment at MEG can be classified as fun, we recognize that work must always get done, but it’s okay to leave a little room for play at times. While we’ve created a remarkable office environment, our employees are not always in the office. Employees go out into the field to do hands on work with our clients. Since we are an industrial engineering consulting firm, there are risks and dangers associated with being out in the field. Maintaining engineering safety and minimizing danger or injury is key. Safety is implemented through the use of PPE (personal protective equipment), because at MEG Safety is ALWAYS in style. We also provide ongoing safety training and practices, so that safety is a priority and danger is not a problem. At MEG Engineering, we have a talented group of individuals focused on helping us achieve our goals. We strive to support our mission and vision by attracting people who share our company values and believe in the positive impact our work has on the communities we serve.

    About Us (MEG)

In 2002, Morgan Engineering Group (MEG) was founded by C. Luke (Courtney) Morgan with the vision to be one of Maryland’s most successful industrial engineering consulting firms. With his wife’s assistance, together they have instilled their own values of honesty and integrity in establishing a company dedicated to building long lasting client relationship by providing unequaled service. Since inception, MEG has provided Industrial Engineering, Energy Management, Manufacturing, Value Engineering, Building Automation and Networking services to various clients throughout South Florida, Southern Maryland, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia, and has earned a reputation for delivering complex projects on time and within budget. Our team of dedicated professionals, known for being the best in their specialties, was carefully assembled from across the engineering and administration disciplines to provide first class system engineering services for each project. In our constant pursuit of providing quality service, we offer clients the services from our other office within the Fort Lauderdale area. Our valued clients include a diverse range of private sectors. Understanding our clients’ goals and seamlessly integrating them into operations has been the key to our consistent growth. As our company expands, our primary commitment remains unchanged: our clients are our first priority. We are proud that much of our work is a result of repeat clients, confirming that our “client first” philosophy is more than just a phrase – it’s our way of doing business. Founded upon a vision of challenging and changing the energy infrastructure to help light up the world, MEG is a certified DBE with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), MBE with the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), and WBE with the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), as well as a certified MWBE with the City of Fort Lauderdale, City of Baltimore, and City of Rockville.

    Automated Systems

MEG’s automation and is unique because we’re not bound to a particular brand of products. We’ll develop a solution that’s right for you, matching your specific application with the best technology for the job, regardless of manufacturer. Don’t let an automation company that’s tied to a single brand force you to make compromises you might regret later on. Trust the independent professionals at MEG.
What can automation do for your business? It can: • Improve efficiency
    • Increases reliability and machine availability
    • Reduce cycle times, and
    • Make adding new equipment easier.
In the end, automation saves our customers time, money and frustration. Efficiencies and power savings can be gained in many different ways. The MEG Automation team starts with a thorough analysis of your processes and applications. Then we apply our combined 70 years of experience to design a custom automation system just for you. We bring together, into one seamless operation, various components such as variable-frequency drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and others. If you choose, a custom touch screen can be designed that replicates your machine onscreen to give single-point access to all functions. For large, complex operations, we can tailor a computer-based Level II interface to give you “control from on high” of everything in your plant.
We have experience successfully implementing automation solutions for the following industries: • Steel
    • Metals and Mining
    • Paper
    • Medical/Hospital – air handling systems, power distribution
    • Water Treatment Plants/Water Pumps

Every unit we manufacture is specially designed or customized to handle your particular material handling need. And we’ll be there for continued service and support if your needs changing.

    System Analysis

Our exposure to extremely high wheel loads has led us into the moveable stadium roof market. These roofs require many of the same mechanisms and parts as overhead cranes, with which we of course have extensive, well-documented experience. It’s rewarding to know that our work contributes to stadiums that are home to some of the most renowned sports organizations in the country. Rogers Centre (formerly Toronto SkyDome) - MEG provided the mechanical drives and idler wheel assembles for the Rogers Centre, one of the largest movable structures in the world. The roof is comprised of four trussed shell panels. Two are segments of spherical shells and two are circular shells. One spherical shell is fixed; the other three shells are mounted on bodies with steel wheels that ride on steel rails. The driven bogies are powered by electric motors that drive the steel wheels through reduction gearing. The roof is normally in the closed position. To open the roof, the moveable spherical shell panel is rolled on a circular track and parked over the fixed spherical shell panel. The cylindrical shield panels are then rolled on straight tracks to rest over the spherical panels. Safeco Field - MEG provided upgraded wheel assemblies to Safeco Field in Seattle. The ballpark’s one-of-a-kind retractable roof is designed to cover but not enclose, thus preserving an open-air environment. The structure covers nearly nine acres, weighs 22 million pounds and contains enough steel to build a skyscraper 55 stories tall. The three movable panels glide on 128 steel wheels powered by 96 ten-horsepower electric motors. The push of a button closes or opens the roof in an average of 10 to 20 minutes, depending on wind and other weather conditions. The roof is self-grounded in the event of lightning strikes and is designed to withstand up to seven feet of snow and sustained winds of up to 70 mph. The project included detailed engineering and tight tolerance manufacturing of both driven and idle wheel assemblies. Our longstanding reputation in the materials handling industry is a testament to the quality products we produce. When you choose MEG Kinetic Structures, you can trust that your project will be completed to the highest standards. Guaranteed.

DC to AC retro fits conversion.

For years the hoists of melt shop cranes have been driven by DC Mill Motors due to their torque capabilities and robust design. Today’s AC motors have proven to provide reliable operation in some of the world’s most difficult applications and environments. Pairing them with today’s variable frequency drives and PLC controls allow for enhancements that deliver high speed accurate operation while minimizing stresses to the overall mechanical and structural systems. Morgan provided a solution that fits all of SDI’s stringent requirements and then some. This solution included new AC motors, a control house with AFE VF drives, festoon, and cabling. This project with many dimensions and requirements along with a site work plan that would require that this crane be back in service in ten days proved to be a challenging feat that was accomplished ahead of schedule and continues to meet the SDI performance criteria.
